CLINICS
Nurse Practitioners
The practice employs two nurse practitioners who are able to consult independently for minor ailments such as chest infections, coughs, colds, sore throats, insect bites, diarrhoea/vomiting, urine infections, hayfever etc. They are available, by appointment, both morning and afternoon.
Specialist
Nurse-led Clinics
Our highly trained team of five nurses
hold regular weekly clinics for diabetes, coronary heart disease, asthma, osteoporosis, hypertension and COPD. These clinics are for newly diagnosed
patients and also for ongoing annual checks. You will be automatically recalled
for check-up where appropriate.
We have three health care assistants
who are available to do blood tests, blood pressure checks, height/weight monitoring
and new registration health checks.
One runs an ear syringing clinic on a Thursday afternoon which is available by appointment only. Patients must have been seen by a clinician to have their ears checked before making an appointment for syringing.
Our busy treatment room is available
for simple dressings, advice and treatment for minor ailments, ECG tests etc.
However, please be aware that we are not equipped to handle accident and emergency
situations and for these you should attend your nearest A&E Hospital (Lancaster
or Blackpool), by ambulance if necessary.
Antenatal
And Well Baby Clinics
Weekly antenatal clinics are held
every Friday afternoon. Patients can be seen by the midwife by appointment.
Regular baby clinics are held fortnightly at Preesall on Thursday afternoon and weekly at Hambleton on Monday morning. The health visitor is always in attendance at these clinics to give advice and a doctor is present for developmental checks. Additionally there is a Baby Vaccination Clinic on Friday afternoon at Preesall and a drop-in Baby Clinic on Tuesday afternoon at Hambleton, both run by health visitors.
Cervical
Cytology And Family Planning
A full service for cervical
smears and family planning is carried out at Preesall and Hambleton. Two of our doctors are ladies who have a special interest in family planning. All
our practice nurses are trained to perform smear tests if preferred.
Vaccinations
And Immunisations
Childhood vaccinations are carried out
in the baby clinics and partners are keen to ensure that a full uptake of these
immunisations is achieved. Parents/guardians will be contacted by health visitor
to remind them when their children's vaccinations are due.
In addition, before every winter, influenza vaccinations are offered to those at special risk,
and also to all patients over 65. It is strongly recommended that patients take
up this invitation. We are now also offering pneumonia vaccination to patients
at risk. As this is a once only vaccination it is only needed if you have never
been vaccinated for pneumonia before.
Adults need tetanus vaccinations
every ten years to ensure complete protection. Please make appointments with the
practice nurse.
Travel Immunisation
We will give full advice regarding holiday
vaccines and foreign travel requirements, including certificates where appropriate,
in our travel clinic on Tuesday afternoons. A charge will be made for certain
immunisations and vaccines which are not covered by the NHS. The nurse will advise
you of these charges. If you are going abroad you should attend a travel clinic
10 to 12 weeks prior to your departure to enable a full course of vaccinations
to be given. When you arrive for your appointment you will be given a questionnaire
requesting details of your general health and holiday destination. This questionnaire
should be completed and returned to the practice nurse.
Yellow Fever Vaccinations
This surgery is an authorised Yellow
Fever Vaccination Centre.
